SEARCHING THE TRACE OF CERVANTES IN THE AHMET MİTHAT’S NOVEL ÇENGİ

Abstract

Cervantes sets the stage for modern novelistic by preparing the end of the romance genre with his work Don Quixote, a parody of the knight stories. Author hits with its own weapon instead of classically satirizing romance genre that is far from reality. Shows the ridiculousness of the knight's story by dropping it to a funny state of a hero who is keen to believe in these works. The work leaves important traces in Turkish literature as well as in world literature. The novel Çengi that is the topic of our article and is written by Ahmet Mithat who is qualified as “writing machine” also is an adapted form of Cervantes’ famous Don Quixote to our literature and culture. Ahmet Mithat who takes upon himself educating society with his writings writes his all works with that consideration. It is possible to see this characteristic of the author in his novel Çengi that is discussed in our article. In this article, by comparing Ahmet Mithat’s novel Çengi with Cervantes’s novel Don Quixote similarities will be detected and revealed what Ahmet Mithat paid attention to when making the adaptation. Also the effect of Cervantes who leads the improvement of novel in world literature on Ahmet Mithat will be tried to detect.

Özet

Cervantes, şövalye hikâyelerinin parodisini yaptığı Don Kişot adlı eseriyle romanstürünün sonunu hazırlayarak modern romancılığın temellerini atar. Yazar,gerçeklikten uzak olan romansları klasik bir şekilde yermek yerine kendi silahıylavurur; şövalye hikâyelerinin saçmalığını, bu eserlere inanarak kahramanlığasoyunan bir kahramanı hâlden hâle düşürerek hicveder. Eser, dünya edebiyatındaolduğu gibi Türk edebiyatında da önemli izler bırakır. Yazı makinesi olaraknitelendirilen Ahmet Mithat’ın kaleme aldığı ve çalışmamıza da konu olan Çengiromanı, Cervantes’in ünlü Don Kişot’unun kültürümüze ve edebiyatımızauyarlanmış bir şeklidir. Toplumu eğitmeyi kendine temel görev edinen AhmetMithat, bütün eserlerini bu kaygıyla kaleme alır. İnceleme konusu yapılan Çengi’dede yazarın bu yönünü görmek mümkündür.Bu makalede Ahmet Mithat’ın Çengi adlı eseri ile Cervantes’in Don Kişot romanıkarşılaştırılacak, iki eser arasındaki benzerlikler tespit edilecek, Ahmet Mithat’ınuyarlama yaparken nelere dikkat ettiği ortaya konacaktır. Ayrıca dünyaedebiyatında roman türünün gelişimine yön veren Cervantes’in Ahmet Mithatüzerinde bıraktığı tesirler de tespit edilmeye çalışılacaktır.
