FACTORS AFFECTING THE SUCCESS OF IMMUNOTHERAPY TREATMENT: A PATH ANALYSIS STUDY

Abstract

Valid causal inferences are of great importance in both medical and social research andpublic policy assessments. In this context, one of the most frequently used methods ininterpreting the direct and indirect relationships between the relevant variables is pathanalysis. In this study, causal relationships between the result, age, gender, type of wart,number of warts, time before treatment, area of the largest wart, and indurationdiameter were determined by path analysis after estimation of the treatment results of90 warts patients treated with immunotherapy. After the attribute selection madeaccording to the analysis results, the treatment result estimation application wasrepeated with 3 most effective variables and the estimations made were found to havethe same accuracy and were around 85.2%. The findings showed that the most effectivevariables on the success of immunotherapy treatment were time to start treatment, ageand wart type parameters. In addition, it has been understood that path analysis is asuitable method to determine the most effective independent variables on the result inorder to estimate the dependent variable.

Özet

Geçerli nedensel çıkarımlar hem tıbbi ve sosyal araştırmalarda hem de kamu politikası değerlendirmelerinde büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu bağlamda ilgili değişkenler arasındaki doğrudan ve dolaylı ilişkileri modelleyerek yorumlamada en sık kullanılan yöntemlerden biri iz analizidir. Bu çalışmada, immünoterapi tedavisi görmüş 90 siğil hastasının tedavi sonuçlarına yönelik yapılan tahmin uygulaması sonrasında sonuç ile yaş, cinsiyet, siğil tipi, siğil sayısı, tedaviden önce geçen zaman, en büyük siğilin alanı ve sertleşmiş doku çapı verileri arasındaki nedensel ilişkiler iz analizi ile belirlenmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre yapılan öznitelik seçimi sonrası tedavi sonuç tahmini uygulaması en etkili 3 değişken ile tekrarlanmış ve yapılan tahminlerin aynı doğruluğa sahip ve % 85.2 civarında olduğu görülmüştür. Bulgular, immünoterapi tedavisi başarısını en çok etkileyen değişkenlerin tedaviye başlama zamanı, yaş ve siğil tipi parametreleri olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca iz analizinin, bağımlı değişkeni tahmin etmek amacıyla, sonuç üzerinde en etkili bağımsız değişkenleri tespit etmede uygun bir yöntem olduğu anlaşılmıştır.
