This study is to investigate the foundation of Refahiye subprovince and to give information about general administrative status,population,natural sources and its villages untill the early 20 th century. Bu çalışmanın amacı, bugünkü Refahiye kazasının oluşumunu incelemek ve XX. Yüzyıl başlarına kadarki genel idarî durumu, nüfusu, doğal kaynakları ve köyle-ri hakkında bilgi vermektir. Bugünkü Refahiye kazası Gercanis nahiyesi halkının sosyal ve iktisadî alanlardaki çalışmaları sonucu oluşmuştur. Çalışmada belgesel tarama tekniği kullanılmıştır.
