Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the some clinical, heamatological, biochemical findings and histopathological examinations of the liver and to determine the effects of experimentally induced in hepatic lipidosis treatment on cats. In this study, there were (a total of 12 cats) 6 female and 6 male used. All subjects were over three year's old age and came from different breeds. Clinically, during the fasting period cats gradually last weight. In examination of mucosa, 3 cats showed slight icterus, 7 cats had pale mucosa, and 4 cats vomited and displayed slight dehydration. Findings of the blood heamogram were statistically significant. Platelet counts decreased, PT and APTT values increased; serum AST values were below the reference baseline but ALT, ALP and direct bilirubin values showed 2, 4 and 6 times that of the normal value respectively. While TG and VLDL cholesterol concentration increased, there were decreases in total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations. Histopathologic examinations of liver samples taken by the ultrasound-guided biopsy revealed lipid vacuolization in various degrees during the overfeed period, however during the fasting period, more than 50% of the hepatocytes were detected to be filled with macrodrop. Treated cats, in comparison to untreated cats, started to eat in a shorter time, showed increased alertness to the environment and also vomiting and dehydration disappeared, in histopathalogical evaluation lipid vacuoles were detected to be appositionally lowered and to got smaller in size. However, there were no significant differences in biochemical parameters except for glucose and urea values.
