Hemichoreoathetosis and hemiballismus due to cerebrovascular accidents

Abstract

Hemichoreoathetosis can be associa-ted with various etiological factors such as tumors, vascular disorders, metabolic disorders, ete. in this paper, four cases with hemichoreo-al-hetosis which are due to thromboembolic proces-ses are presented. None oflhe cases had any other neurologic signs besides choreo-athetosis. Impro-vement with anliagreguns and neuroleptics andlor diazepam was observed in ali. it should be remembered that cerebrovascular accidents may cause püre hemichoreo-alhetosis and a good prognosis is expected in such cases.

Özet

Tek taraflı koreoatetoik hareketler (hemikore-atetoz), tümör, vasküler olaylar, metabolik olaylar gibi çok çeşitli nedenlere bağlı olarak gelişebilir. Burada hemikoreoatetozu veya hemiballismusu olan dört olgu sunulmuştur. Bunların tümünde neden tromboembolik olaydır ve hiçbirinde koreoatetoz dışında nörolojik bulgu mevcut değildir. Dört olgu da antiagregan ile nöroleptik ve/veya diazepam tedavisine iyi yanıt vermişlerdir. Serebrovasküler olayların nadir de olsa sadece hemikoreoatetoz ile seyredebileceği ve bunların genelde iyi prognozlu olduğu gözardı edilmemelidir.
