Tuberculosis in hemodialysis patients

Abstract

In patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis, tuberculosis incidence is high and it is difficult to establish the diagnosis in these patients. We present 19 tuberculosis ca¬ses among 296 patients who underwent hemodi¬alysis between 1980 and 1996. Tuberculosis was extrapulmonary in seven cases. Our patients were treated with isoniazid, rifampicin, morphazinamid and streptomycin or ethambutol. One of our cases died in the investigation period, four of them died within the four months of therapy, two cases died after completion of tuberculosis therapy, with ca¬uses other than tuberculosis.

Düzenli hemodiyaliz hastalarında tüberkü¬loz insidansı yüksektir. Bu hastalarda tanı güçlü¬ğü vardır. Çalışmada 1980 -1996 yılları arasında kronik hemodializ programındaki 296 hastadan, tüberküloz tanısı olan 19 olgu incelenmiştir. Olgu¬ların yedisinde böbrek, lenfbezi, periton tutulum¬ları saptanmıştır. Olgularımızda isoniazid, rifam-pisin, morfazinamid ile streptomisin veya etham-butol içeren tedavi rejimleri uygulanmıştır. Olgu¬lardan biri tetkik aşamasında, dördü tedavinin ilk dört ayı içinde, ikisi de tedavi bittikten sonra tü¬berküloz dışı nedenlerle ölmüştür.
