Abstract
Purpose: Upper-lid gold plaque insertions and lower-lid-shortening procedures are surgical techniques used to restore eyelid function and protect the cornea in patients with facial nerve paralysis. In this article a modified surgical technique and analysis often patients with facial paralysis are presented. Material and method: A small incision was made approximately 3 mm above the upper eyelid margin. With a sharp scissors the tarsal plate was identified. Prefabricated gold plaques ranging in weight from 1 to 1.3 g were sutured to the plate. Lower-lid tightening procedures were performed in addition to gold plaque insertion in three patients. Results: Eye closure was adequate in nine out of ten patients. After a median follow-up of 125 months, there was one extrusion of the gold plaque. No other complication occurred. Conclusion: This technique can be used safely in patients with facial nerve paralysis.
-Bulgular: On hastanın dokuzunda gözkapağının kapanması iyi idi. Ortalama 12,5 aylık takip sonunda bir hastada plak atıldı. Başka bir kompükasyon olmadı Sonuç: Bu teknik fasiyal paralizili hastalarda güvenle kullanılabilir.
