Abstract
Purpose: We aimed to search possible influence of hypobaric hypoxy on the effects of cardiorespiratory functions. Material and methods: This study was investigated on 14 voluntary boy scouts. The first measurement was taken at the Erciyes University campus at an altitude of 1050 m. The second measurement was taken on Mount Erciyes at an altitude of 3200m. Following the first measurement and seven days later heart rate, arterial blood pressure and pulmonary functions were measured. Results: Heart rate and respiration frequency of second measurements were found to have increased (p < 0.05). Measurement taken seven days later showed a significant decrease in body weight (p 0.05); on the other hand, FEF 25-75 % and FEV1/FVC were found as significantly increased (p< 0.05). Conclusion: Hypobaric hypoxy in midaltitude has an important effect on the circulation and respiratory systems and acclimatization must not be neglected for physiological adaptation.
