Presentation of a child with isolated hemihypertrophy and review of the literature

Abstract

It was determined that left-side extremites of a three-month-old–male infant are longer and thicker than right extremities. It was investigated whether hemihypertrophy of symptom of syndromes or isolated hemihypertrophy was present. The patient was also investigated by us with regard to childhood embiryonic neoplasia associated with hemihypertrophy. The patient was planned to be observed with comprehensive examination every 3 months and abdominal ultrasound scan every 6 months, to avoid the risk of probable development of embiryonic neoplasia in childhood.

Özet

Üç aylık erkek bebekte sol taraf ekstremitelerin sağ taraf ekstremitelerden daha uzun ve kalın olduğu (hemihipertrofi) saptandı. Hemihipertrofinin, bileşenlerinden birinin hemihipertrofi olduğu sendromlardan birisi mi, yoksa izole hemihipertrofi mi olduğu araştırıldı. İzole hemihipertrofi olduğu saptanan hasta, hemihipertrofi ile birlikte sık görülen çocukluk çağının embiryonal tümörleri yönünden de incelemeye alındı. Konjenital izole hemihipertrofi saptadığımız hasta, bu hastalarda çocukluk çağı embiryonal tümör gelişme riski göz önünde bulundurularak üç ayda bir kapsamlı fizik muayene ve altı ayda bir abdominal ultrasonografi planlanarak takibe alındı.
