A RARE MASS IN THE NECK: INFLAMMATORY MYOFIBROBLASTIC TUMOR

Abstract

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is a rare benign tumor that forms infiltration which is composed of myofibroblastic spindle cells. It is usually seen in the fieldofmesenchymalregionandrarelyheadandneck region. A child was hospitalized with acute lymphadenitis that was presented with swelling in the left side of neck and fever. Despite of medical antibiotics therapy, the ultrasound imaging of mass was seem to be progressed and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a hyper vascular mass. As rapid progression in mass size was seen, incisional biopsy was performed and pathology was interpreted asinflammatorymyofibroblastictumor.Totalexcision of the mass in the neck was performed under general anesthesia in this rare phenomenon. There were no complications after the operation. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor diagnosed patients whom we operated are presented with clinical findings and treatment comparing with literature data.

İnflamatuarmyofibroblastiktümör,infiltrasyongösteren myofibroblastik iğsi hücrelerden oluşan nadir görünen bening bir tümördür. Genelde mezenkimal alanda ve nadirolarakdabaşboyunbölgesindegörülür.Boyunsol tarafta şişlik ve ateş şikayeti ile başvuran bu olgu, akut lenfadenit tanısıyla interne edildi. Medikal tedaviye rağmen boyutlarında progresyon gösteren kitlenin ultrasonografi görüntülemesi malignite lehine şüpheli kitle ve manyetik rezonans görüntülemelesinde hipervasküler kitle izlendi. Kitle boyutlarında hızlı progresyon olması üzerine olguya insizyonel biyopsi uygulandıvepatolojisonucuinflamatuarmyofibroblastik tümörolarakyorumlandı.Nadirgörülenbuolguda,genel anestezi altında boyundaki kitlenin total eksizyonu gerçekleştirildi.Operasyonsonrasıtakiplerindeherhangi bir sorun gelişmedi. Nadir saptanan bu olgunun klinik bulguları, görüntüleme yöntemleri ve tedavisi literatür bilgileriyle sunulması amaçlanmıştır.
