Teachers perceptions of school culture: Buyukcekmece sample

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to detemine school administrators’ and teachers’ perceptions of organisational culture. Survey method was used in the study. Scale entitled as “School Culture Scale” previously devised by Sisman (1994) was used in the study. 30 administrators and 331 teachers, who work at primary schools in Buyukcekmece Region, constituted the study group .Results of the study showed that administrators’ and teachers’ perceptions of school culture were determined within the range of “most of the time”. With regards to title variable, administrators’ perceptions of school culture were higher than teachers.

Özet

Arastırmanın amacı ilköğretim okullarındaki yönetici ve öğretmenlerin kurumlarındaki kültüre iliskin algılarının belirlenmesidir. Arastırmada genel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıstır. Ölçme aracı olarak Sisman tarafından (1994) gelistirilmis olan “Okul Kültürü Ölçeği”nden yararlanılmıstır. Đstanbul ili Büyükçekmece ilçesi ilköğretim okullarında görevli 30 yönetici ve 331 öğretmen arastırmanın çalısma grubunu olusturmustur. Elde edilen bulgular sonucunda öğretmen ve yöneticilerin kurumlarındaki kültüre iliskin algıları ile ilgili sonuçlarda kurum kültürünün yerlesmesine “çoğunlukla” katıldıkları belirlenmistir. Arastırmada, yöneticilerin kurum kültürünü algılama düzeyleri öğretmenlere göre daha yüksek çıkmıstır.
