Effect of Porous Aggregate Size on the Techno-Mechanical Properties of Cementless Lightweight Mortars

Abstract

The use of natural and porous materials is becoming increasingly common in constructionapplications. To reduce the dead load and to construct the high-energy efficient buildings, the products madefrom lightweight aggregates are often observed in civil engineering practices. One of the newest natural andporous aggregates is Alaçatı-Alapietra stone. This tuff-like rock type with the natural and porous characteristicsis also nowadays gaining importance in construction materials sector. In addition to this, another important issuein the construction materials sector is the effort to create cement-free construction products due to environmentalconcerns. In this paper, the results of a comprehensive research work that is carried out on using of AlaçatıAlapietra stone as a lightweight aggregate in cementless lightweight mortars were evaluated. Specially, thetechnical properties to be needed in developing a product with Alaçatı stone were presented in detail.

Özet

Doğal ve gözenekli malzemelerin inşaat uygulamalarında kullanımı gittikçe yaygınlaşmaktadır. Yapılarda ölü yükü azaltmak ve yüksek enerjili verimli binaları inşa etmek için, hafif agregalarla üretilen hafif yapılı ürünler sıklıkla inşaat mühendisliği uygulamalarında kullanılmaktadır. En yeni doğal, hafif ve gözenekli agregalardan bir tanesi de Alaçatı-Alapietra taşı olarak değerlendirilebilir. Doğal ve gözenekli özelliklere sahip bu tüf benzeri kaya türü günümüzde inşaat malzemeleri sektöründe önem kazanmaktadır. Buna ek olarak, inşaat malzemeleri sektöründe bir diğer önemli konu, çevreye karşı duyarlılık bağlamında, düşük oranda çimento bileşenli veya hiç çimento içermeyen inşaat ürünleri yaratma çabasıdır. Bu çalışmada, çimento içermeyen hafif harçlarda hafif agrega olarak Alaçatı-Alapietra taşı kullanımı üzerinde yapılan kapsamlı bir araştırma çalışmasının sonuçları değerlendirilmiştir. Özellikle, Alaçatı taşı ile bir ürün geliştirmede ihtiyaç duyulan teknik özellikler ayrıntılı olarak sunulmuştur.
