What Are the factors reducing the academic achievement in a primary school located in a neighborhood with a low socioeconomic status?

Düşük sosyoekonomik düzeydeki mahallede bulunan bir ilköğretim okulunda akademik başarıyı düşüren faktörler nelerdir?

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to determine the factorsnegatively affecting academic achievement in a primary schoollocated in a neighborhood consisting of families with lowsocioeconomic status in the city center of Erzurum, by a teacher working in that school and an academic of Ataturk University in2011 - 2012 academic year. Case study was used as a researchmethod, and interview technique as a data collection tool. Theresearch was conducted with the participation of twoadministrators, eight teachers, five parents and five students fromthe school. As a result of the study, it was determined that theleading factor that negatively affected the academic achievementin a school located in a neighborhood with low socio- economicstatus was the socio- economic conditions of the families; whichwas followed by the settlement of the school, students, parents,teachers, school facilities and some characteristics of schooladministrators; respectively.

Bu araştırma, Erzurum il merkezinde düşük sosyoekonomikdüzeyli ailelerden oluşan bir mahallede bulunan ilköğretimokulunda, akademik başarıyı olumsuz yönde etkileyen unsurlarıtespit etmek amacıyla, o okulda çalışan bir öğretmen ve AtatürkÜniversitesinde n bir öğretim üyesi tarafından, 2011 -2012 öğretimyılında yapılmıştır. Araştırma yöntemi olarak örnek olay, veritoplama aracı olarak görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma,çalışmanın yapıldığı okuldan iki idareci, sekiz öğretmen, beş velive beş öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmasonucunda, düşük sosyoekonomik düzeydeki bir mahalledebulunan okulda, akademik başarıyı olumsuz yönde etkileyenunsurların başında ailelerin sosyoekonomik koşullarının geldiği;daha sonra sırasıyla okulun bulunduğu yerleşim biriminin,öğrencilerin, velilerin, öğretmenlerin, okulun fiziki olanaklarınınve okul idarecilerinin bazı özelliklerinin olduğu belirlenmiştir.
