Views of teachers and academicians about alternative education applications in Turkey

Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to explore the views ofteachers, academicians and graduate students about alternativeeducation/school applications and applicability of theseapplications in Turkey. The current study is a qualitative study.The data were collected through focused group discussion andinterviews and semi- structured interview form was used. Thesample of the study consisted of 25 individuals including 13academicians at Yuzuncu Yil University and 2 graduate studentsin Education Sciences , and 10 teachers working in Van province.The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis technique. Withrespect to the findings, alternative education is a new concept forthe participants and they have complication for this concept. Also,the participants have different views about the applicability ofalternative education in Turkey. In this respect, alternativeeducation applications have the potential to cause greatdiscussions.
Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı, alternatif eğitim/okul uygulamalarına vealternatif eğitim/okul uygulamalarının Türkiye'deuygulanabilirliğine ilişkin öğretmenlerin, akademisyenlerin velisansüstü öğrencilerinin görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırma nitelbir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın verileri odak grup tartışması vebireysel görüşme yoluyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışmagrubu, Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi'nde görev yapan 13akademisyen, eğitim bilimleri alanında lisansüstü öğrenim gören2 öğrenci ve Van ilinde görev yapan 10 öğretmen olmak üzeretoplam 25 katılımcıdan oluşmuştur. Araştırma verileri, betimselanaliz yöntemi ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilenbulgulara göre alternatif eğitim, Türkiye için yeni bir kavramsayılır ve bu konuda katılımcılar kavram kargaşası yaşamaktadır.Ayrıca alternatif eğitimin Türkiyede uygulanabilirliği konusundakatılımcılar farklı görüşlere sahiptirler. Bu yönüyle alternatifeğitim uygulamaları, büyük tartışmaları beraberinde getirmepotansiyeli taşımaktadır.
