A Holistic Evaluation of Qualitative Research Course by Graduate Students and Academic Staff

Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to have those graduate students who are taking the qualitativeresearch and those professors who are giving the course at the department of Educational Sciences,in the faculty of Education of a public university evaluate the course and previous courses in depth,depending on different variables. 18 postgraduate students and 3 professors participated in the studyon a voluntary basis in the Department of Educational Sciences of the related university. Data wereobtained through interviews, observations and documents in order to provide data triangulation, andcontent analysis was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was seen thatgraduate students consider qualitative research methods important within the field of educationalsciences; negative opinions about the physical environment in which the course is taught; computer,projection, thesis, articles and books are mostly used as tools and materials in the course; thepresence of a course outline is found to be positive. It was also concluded that student presentations,product based studies, assignments and exams were generally included in the evaluation of thestudents’success.

Bu çalışma ile bir devlet üniversitesi eğitim fakültesinde Eğitim Bilimleri Bölümünde verilenNitel Araştırma Yöntemleri dersini alan lisansüstü öğrenciler ile bölümde bu dersi veren öğretimüyelerinin bakış açısından nitel araştırma derslerinin farklı değişkenlere göre derinlemesinedeğerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmaya, ilgili üniversitenin Eğitim Bilimleri Ana BilimDalında, gönüllülük esasına dayalı olarak 18 lisansüstü öğrenci ile bu dersi veren 3 öğretim üyesikatılmıştır. Veri çeşitlemesi sağlanması bakımından veriler görüşme, gözlem ve dokümanlar yoluylaelde edilmiştir ve verilerin analizinde içerik analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucundalisansüstü öğrencilerin nitel araştırma yöntemlerini eğitim bilimlerin alanında önemli gördükleri;dersin işlendiği fiziksel ortama yönelik olumsuz görüşlerin yer aldığı; dersin işlenişinde araç-gereçve materyal olarak en çok bilgisayar, projeksiyon, tez, makale ve kitapların kullanıldığı; dersin birizlencesinin var olmasının olumlu bulunduğu; gözlem konusuna daha fazla ağırlık verilmesigerektiği; değerlendirilmede öğrenci sunumlarına, ürün odaklı çalışmalarına, okul dışıödevlendirmelere ve sınavlara yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
