Abstract
The aim of this research is to analyze the processes and interactions experienced by university students within the framework of the hidden curriculum concept. Within the scope of the research, in-depth interviews were held with the students at the selected state university, on the basis of the conceptual framework of the hidden curriculum. These interviews attempted to reveal the opinions and thoughts of the students on specific themes. In addition, different places in the campus have been studied using fieldnotes technique to elaborate the hidden curriculum in more detail. Within the scope of the research, twenty students, ten women and ten men, who defined themselves Marxist, socialist, leftist, social democratic, egalitarian, humanist, independent, liberal, apolitical, idealistic and conservative, were interviewed. These students are an associate degree, thirteen undergraduate, three graduate and three doctoral students from three institutes, three colleges and seven different faculties in the same university. According to findings of the research, most of the students are aware of the process of transferring values and attitudes in the university, even they are not informed about the concept of “hidden curriculum”. It has been understood that the academicians have the most important role in determining course content in the university and in order to be successful, students choose to act in accordance with the values, attitudes and beliefs of academicians. It has been seen that, by academicians a hidden curriculum has been presented to the students on behaviors that must be exhibited in their future business life. In the university where a competitive mentality is dominant, it has emerged that the bell-curve system is the most important reason for the competitive environment. In the university where there is no representation and no right to speak of students, the students were most disturbed by the informal rules set by the students in a certain political view. Although it has been determined that there is a hidden curriculum to reproduce the fear and violence culture in university, it is understood that students in every political view are longing for a university where they will live in a solidarity against violence.
