Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive power of ego states on attachmentstyles in teacher candidates. The descriptive survey model was used in the study. Theparticipants were 340 undergraduate students (249 female, 91 male) studying in differentmajors at the Faculty of Education in Pamukkale University. Ego States and AttachmentPatterns Scales were used to gather the data. Pearson correlation and linear regression analyseswere performed to analyze the data. Results showed that secure attachment style was positivelyrelated with adult and natural child and negatively with rebellious child ego states; fearfulattachment style was positively related with golden and rebellious child and negatively withnurturing parent ego states; preoccupied attachment style was positively related with natural, golden and rebellious child and negatively with adult ego states; dismissing attachment stylewas positively related with critical parent, natural, golden and rebellious child and negativelywith nurturing parent ego states. Moreover, regression analyses show that adult, natural andrebellious child ego states predict secure attachment style; golden and rebellious child ego statespredict fearful attachment style; adult, natural and golden child ego states predict preoccupiedattachment style; nurturing parents and rebellious child ego states predict dismissing attachmentstyle. Implications of the findings were discussed and further suggestions were given for theeducators
