Development of Strucuralist Theory in the Literary Criticism

Abstract

Structuralism, which emerged in linguistics and influenced a lot of social sciences, is seen as one of the most important and influential intellectual movements of the 20th century. When the ideas that have matured within Structuralism were traced back to the past through the people who put these ideas forward and their processors, the important turning points in the development of Structuralism have been revealed and a consensus was reached on these turning points. It is a common view that Structuralism, which maintained its popularity in the era between the middle 1950’s and middle 1970’s, is based upon the studies that had been conducted at the beginning of the century by the famous linguist Ferdinand de Saussure. First opinions of Structuralism, which became an accepted theory in the 60’s, are found in the General Linguistics Lecture’s of Saussure. In this study, starting from Saussure until Derrida, the development of Structuralism and the emergence of Deconstruction, which resulted from the criticism of Structuralism, will be studied through the ideas and practices of its prominent representatives.

Dil bilimde ortaya çıkan ve birçok sosyal bilim dalını da etkileyen yapısalcılık, 20. yüzyılın en önemli ve etkili entelektüel akımlarından biri olarak görülmektedir. Yapısalcılık içinde olgunlaşan fikirler geçmişe doğru takip edildiğinde fikri ortaya koyan, işleyenler aracılığıyla yapısalcılığın gelişimindeki önemli dönemeçler ortaya konmuş ve bu dönemeçler üzerinde uzlaşma sağlanmıştır. 1950’lerin ortasından 1970’lerin ortasına kadarki dönemde popülerliğini koruyan yapısalcılığın, yüzyıl başında ünlü dilbilimci Ferdinand de Saussure’ün çalışmalarına dayandığı görüşü ortaktır. 60’lı yıllarda kabul gören bir teori haline gelen yapısalcılığın ilk fikirlerine Saussure’ün Genel Dilbilim Dersleri’nde rastlanır. Bu çalışmada Saussure’den Derrida’ya kadar yapısalcılığın gelişimi ve yapısalcılığın eleştirisiyle ortaya çıkan yapısökümün ortaya çıkışı önemli temsilcilerinin fikirleri ve uygulamaları üzerinden incelenmeye çalışılacaktır.
