Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the changes in the prophetic biography books which begun with theannouncement of Tanzimat Reforms and accelerated onward. Prophetic biography used to consist messages as a reference pointfor reforms but later changed its course with the effects of orientalists efforts.Hereby, a critical approach have emerged andneeds of returning to primary sources became obvious. Modern, scientific and realist approaches - which sharpened after thefounding of the republicgained new speed with the translated books after 1960s. The study of prophetic biography returnedback to its legendary and mythical feature with the holy birth week celebrations of prophet Mohammed.

Bu makalede Tanzimattan önce başlayan ve Tanzimatın ilanıyla hızlanan siyer eserleri içindeki değişiklikleri elealacağız. Önceleri yapılacak ıslahatlar için dayanak noktası olarak belli mesajlar içeren siyerler, daha sonra Şarkiyatçılarınçalışmalarının etkileri sonucunda yeni bir mecraya girer. Böylelikle hem eleştirel bir yaklaşım ortaya çıkar hem de birincilkaynaklara dönme ihtiyacı iyice belirginleşir. Cumhuriyet ile beraber daha da keskinleşen modern, bilimsel, realist yaklaşım1960 sonrasında çeviri eserlerle beraber yeni bir ivme kazanır. Siyer çalışmaları son zamanlarda meydan gelen Kutlu DoğumHaftası etkinlikleri ile tekrar ilk baştaki o menkıbevi, efsanevi niteliklerine geri döner.
