Part of the integral of nursing care: Neurovascular assessment

Abstract

The neurovascular assessment (NVA) is very importmant for patients with musculoskeletal trauma. The trauma caused by complications such as neurovascular impairment and compartment syndrome. The NVA is integral to the nursing care of patients with musculoskeletal trauma in order that development of secondary ischaemic injury of the affected extremity is detected and managed promptly. But any resource related this topic couldn’t achieve in the current Turkish nursing literature. Also there wasn’t evidence related frequency of NVA in the literature. This review article are included neurovascular impairment and compartment syndrome, the importance of NVA on determination of complications early and effective management of them, the assessment criterias of NVA, and nursing role of NVA.

Kas iskelet sistemi travması geçiren hastalar için nörovasküler tanılama (NVT) çok önemlidir. Bu travmalar nörovasküler bozulma ve kompartman sendromu gibi komplikasyonlara neden olmaktadır. Kas iskelet sistemi travmasından sonra ekstremitede yaralanmaya sekonder gelişebilen iskeminin belirlenmesi ve uygun şekilde yönetilmesi açısından NVT hemşirelik bakımının ayrılmaz bir parçasıdır. Buna rağmen Türk hemşirelik literatüründe bu konuya ilişkin bir kaynağa ulaşılamamıştır. Aynı zamanda literatürde NVT’nın sıklığı ile ilgili herhangi bir kanıt bulunmamaktadır. Bu derlemede nörovasküler bozulma ve kompartman sendromu, komplikasyonların erken dönemde saptanması ve etkili yönetilmesinde NVT’nın önemi, NVT’da kullanılan değerlendirme ölçütleri ve hemşirenin NVT’daki rolü yer almaktadır.
