Abstract

In the present study we discuss the terms big cities or metropolis as an extension to the widely discussedtopics of Cultural Turns, in other words Spatial Turns due to post-colonial effects and migration floods. The protagonists in the literary works struggle with the unavoidable lures of the metropolis, alienage, and foreign life styles. Hence, in two literary texts of German (Alfred Döblin: BerlinAlexanderplatz and E. Sevgi Özdamar: Seltsame Sterne starren zur Erde Wedding- Pankow 1976/77)Berlin, a huge metropolis, lack of predictions experienced by the antagonists, survival strategies, and theirencounter with foreign life styles will be analyzed out of literal, sociological, and setting aspects withattempts made for inferences and brought to the foreground.Setting here is in the sense of a meaning adding shell hiding everything and shaping peoplescharacters. The more dangerous and alluring a metropolis is, the more difficult it is to live there as itallures people, crashes the weak and nourishes the bad as in the literary text we will analyze.
