Negative Views about Marriage in Classical Turkish Literature

Abstract

Contrary to a popular opinion, Classical TurkishLiterature is a literature which is directly connected withthe social life and it also possesses materials about anyfeeling and thought in the community. This wealth oftopic shows itself in the variety of the literary genres.One of the issues which the poets discourse withreference to the social life is the concept of marriage.Marriage which is very necessary for a healthy social lifeand for the continued of the generation is a conditionwhich is generally encouraged. However, some poets byglorifying to remain single have opposed to the marriage.They have shared their reasoned negative views aboutmarriage with the other people. The poets which opposedto marriage, may have experienced any problem and forthis to give advice to the other people against marriage.The negative expressions about marriage shared in thisarticle, are not general judgement of the society or thepoets of this period; but they are just personal opinion ofsome poets.In this article under three titles; the woman perceptionof some poets, the marriage perception, and their views incases where the marriage is inevitable, were shared withsample verses, and also the verses have translated by us totoday's Turkish as prose. And in the end, additionallywere given two gazelles concerning woman /private partsand marriage/matrimony.

Yaygın olarak bilinenin aksine, Klasik Türk Edebiyatısosyal hayatla birebir bağlantılı, toplumda karşılığı olanher duygu ve düşünceye yönelik malzemeyi içerisindebarındıran bir edebiyattır. Bu konu zenginliği, edebî türlerinçeşitliliğinde kendini göstermektedir.Şairlerin toplum hayatından hareketle ele aldıkları konulardanbiri de evlilik kavramıdır. Sağlıklı bir toplumhayatı ve neslin devamı için çok gerekli olan evlilik, genellikleteşvik edilen bir durumdur. Bununla beraber bazışairler bekâr kalmayı yücelterek evliliğe karşı çıkmışlar;evliliğe dair ileri sürdükleri menfî fikirlerini kendilerincebir sebebe bağlayarak paylaşmışlardır. Yaşamış olabilecekleriherhangi bir problemden dolayı evliliğe karşı çıkanşairler, başkalarına da evlenmemeleri yönünde nasihatlerdebulunmuşlardır. Evliliğe dair bu yazıda paylaşılan menfiifadeler, toplumun veya o dönem şairlerinin genel yargısıdeğil, bazı şairlerin şahsî düşünceleridir.Üç başlık hâlinde kaleme alınan makalede; bazı şairlerinkadın algısı, evlilik algısı ve evlenmenin kaçınılmaz olduğudurumlardaki görüşleri örnek beyitlerle paylaşılmış, beyitlergünümüz Türkçesine nesir olarak çevrilmiştir. Sonundaise "kadın/avret ve evlilik/tezevvüc"le ilgili üç gazel ekolarak verilmiştir.
