Abstract

In the Islamic Turkish literature the mevlid type includesthe deep love and devotion to the Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him) especially products that are expressedand shared as a verse. As a sign of the love of theTurkish people to the Prophet, the Turkish Mevlidsconstitute a wealth which can not to be found in any of theother religious genres in terms of the number. Due to thepopularity and readings of the Mevlut Vesîletü’n-Necât(The occasion of Independence) (written by H. 812 / M.1409), which was written by Süleyman Çelebi at thebeginning of the 15th century, many products of this genreappeared in Turkish literature in the following years. One of the examples of the 16th century is the Mevlidnamed as Mevlûdü'n-Nebî with 464 couplets, which hastwo copies by Hamdullâh Hamdî (d. H. 863/1575?),known as Hatîb-i Hagia Sophia. One copy is in theSüleymaniye Library Fatih section and the other in theNational Library. Mevlûdü'n-Nabî shows a great similaritywith Vesîletü’n-Necât in terms of the parts formingits content. In addition to this, Hamdullah Hamdi's heavyand long interval meter preference in the Mevlûdü'n-Nebî,the detailed processing of the ascension section than thevilâdet (birth) section, the formation of couplets connectingthe sections in different forms, the substitution of foreignwords and literary arts, reveals particularly, that he hasshown a distant attitude to pursue the structure andstylistic features of Vesîletü’n-Necât.
