Taziye Tradition In The Changing Social Structure Of Sanliurfa -An Analysis Of Social Structute

ŞANLIURFA'DA DEĞİŞEN TOPLUMSAL YAPIDA TAZİYE GELENEĞİ -Bir Toplumsal Yapı Çözümlemesi-

Abstract

Birth and death ceremonies in a society are two significant elemennts in theunderstanding of the society. Such ceremonies include some symbolic valueswhich are the indications of social interactions and the perceptions of theindiduals in the society.In Sanliıurfa, in accordance with the traditional social structure, the tradition oftaziye (offering condolence in a special place during a couple of days), which plays a very significant role in the social solidarity, is such an institution. Yet,recently, there have been some changes in taziye because the city has becomeurbanized and modernized, which detached the taziye from its historical roots.So, the analysis of this transformation will also help us in the understanding ofthe socail changes in the city in general.

Bir toplumun evlilik ve ölüm törenleri, onun toplumsal yapısının anlaşılmasında önemli ipuçları taşır. Bu tür törenler, toplumsal ilişkilerin canlı bir şekilde yaşandığı ve toplum bireylerinin bütünün kuşatıldığı sembolik değerlerle doludur. Şanlıurfa'da da geleneksel toplumsal yapıya bağlı olarak, toplumsal dayanışma ve bütünleşmede önemli bir yere sahip olan "taziye geleneği" bu özellikte bir uygulamadır. Ancak, son zamanlarda Şanlıurfa'da yaşanan toplumsal değişmeler paralelinde bu uygulamalarda da bir değişim yaşanmaktadır. Şanlıurfa'nın modernitenin etkisiyle kentleşme yönünde yaşadığı bu değişmeler, geleneksel taziye uygulamalarını da etkilemekte ve geleneksel bağlarından çözmektedir. Dolayısıyla, geleneksel taziye uygulamalarındaki bu değişmelere de bakarak Şanlıurfa'nın toplumsal yapısı anlaşılabilir.
