Abstract

Physical space is not an empty space devoid of symbolic meanings. In urban areas, space is produced with many tangible and intangible factors. One of the determinants of this production process is ideology. Because the power interferes with the production processes of the space with various tools. Social belonging and identity building processes are actively used to produce or transform public spaces with policies that are compatible with the ideological structure. In this study, the activities in the cultural centers that are actively used in the construction process are discussed within the framework of Althusser's ideological apparatus of the state. Active cultural centers in the central districts of Ankara have been determined as the universe of the study. The mixed research method was preferred in the study. While doing this, the structured interview technique was used to obtain subjective evaluations of the visitors who benefit from the cultural centers. The qualitative data obtained here have been evaluated and interpreted using quantitative analysis methods. In this context, the statistical significance of the results was tested in terms of gender, age, profession, education level and current status/ suggestion categories. As a result of the study, it was concluded that cultural centers are ideologically based places where culture is rebuilt by political administrations.
