The analysis of the relation among test anxiety, perfectionism and the attitudes of parents of the secondary students who will pass placement test (Sbs)

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to determine whether the perfectionist personality traits and the attitudes of parents of secondary students predict their test anxiety. The sample of the research consisted of 723 secondary students studying at 6th. 7th. and 8th. grades. To collect data, Test Anxiety Inventory (Öner, 1990); Parenting Styles Scale (Sümer & Güngör, 1999); Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (Kırdök, 2004) and Personal Information Form were administered. In the study, whether the attitudes of parents together with the perfectionist personality traits predicted the test anxieties of the students was determined by the use of multi linear regression analysis. Results suggested that positive and negative perfectionism, the acceptance and concern shown by mother were meaningful predictors of total scores and score about delusion sub dimension obtained from the test anxiety scale. However, in the study negative perfectionism was seen to be a meaningful predictor of the affective sub dimension scores which were obtained from test anxiety scale.

Bu araştırmada ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencilerinin mükemmeliyetçi kişilik özellikleri ile anne-baba tutumlarının sınav kaygısını yordayıp yordamadığını belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma 6, 7 ve 8. sınıfa devam eden 723 ilköğretim öğrencisi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerin sınav kaygısına ilişkin veriler Sınav Kaygısı Envanteri (Öner, 1990), anne-baba tutumlarına ilişkin veriler Anne-Baba Stilleri Ölçeği (Sümer ve Güngör, 1999), mükemmeliyetçiliğe ilişkin veriler Olumlu Ve Olumsuz Mükemmeliyetçilik Ölçeği (Kırdök, 2004) ve demografik değişkenlere ilişkin veriler araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Araştırmada anne-baba tutumlarının ve mükemmeliyetçiliğin birlikte sınav kaygısını yordayıp yordamadığı çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi tekniği ile belirlenmiştir. Olumlu mükemmeliyetçiliğin, olumsuz mükemmeliyetçiliğin ve anneden algılanan kabul ve ilginin sınav kaygısı ölçeğinden elde edilen toplam puanların ve kuruntu alt boyutu puanlarının anlamlı yordayıcıları oldukları görülmüştür. Ayrıca araştırmada olumsuz mükemmeliyetçiliğin sınav kaygısı ölçeğinden elde edilen duyuşsal alt boyut puanlarının anlamlı yordayıcısı olduğu görülmüştür.
