The assessment of the problems facing elemantary school music education from the teachers point of view (example of city of Trabzon)

Abstract

It was proposed that the program of the music education in elementary school level has not been meeting the needs along with all the mistakes that's been done in this area, and that the teachers are often left alone to face the problems by themselves. It was targeted to reach each and every thought and standpoint of elementary level music teachers by establishing all the challenges that are experienced by them day in day out. During the research using qualitative and quantitative research model, as the survey research method (scanning), in the research a questionnaire was used as a means of data collection. The research includes all the elementary schools that the music instructors served in the 2008-2009 academic year, in the province of Trabzon. With this purpose, 107 music teachers working in the province of Trabzon have taken part in a survey. For the most part, the data that was obtained from the research, has proved that music teachers, have reached the level of elementary music education implementation. In addition to lack of music classrooms , inadequate music lessons, negligence of students, parents, school principals, teachers and society , additional problems such as the necessity for a second job just to make ends meet, feeling of incompetence which prevents the music education to reach it's primary goal also have been identified.

Müzik dersi öğretim programının, ilköğretim okullarındaki uygulamasının istenilen düzeyde gerçekleşmediği ve bu uygulamalar sırasında, müzik öğretmenlerinin çeşitli zorluk ve sorunlarla yüz yüze geldiği düşünülmüştür. Bu amaçla, yaşanan sıkıntıların tespit edilerek, ilköğretim müzik öğretmenlerinin görüş ve düşüncelerine ulaşılması hedeflenmiştir. Araştırma boyunca nitel ve nicel araştırma modeli kullanılırken, araştırma yöntemi olarak survey (tarama), araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak da anket formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma 2008-2009 eğitim-öğretim yılı Trabzon ili genelinde, müzik öğretmenlerinin görev yaptığı tüm ilköğretim kurumlarını kapsamaktadır. Bu amaçla, Trabzon ili genelinde görev yapan 107 müzik öğretmenine anket uygulanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler, müzik öğretmenlerinin ilköğretim müzik dersi öğretim programı uygulama düzeyine büyük ölçüde ulaştıklarını göstermiştir. Okullardaki müzik dersliğinin bulunmaması, müzik ders saatlerinin yetersiz olması, öğrenci, veli, okul müdürü, öğretmen ve toplumun ilgisizliğinin yanı sıra geçim sıkıntısı, ek iş yapma gerekliliği, kendini yetersiz hissetme gibi müzik dersinin hedeflerine ulaşabilmesini engelleyen çeşitli sorunların varlığı da tespit edilmiştir.
