SWOT Analysis for Cattle Breeding Firms: The Case of Biga

Abstract

Animal husbandry is one of the strategically important sector because of food safety and food supply. Biga has a great potential for cattle breeding. To use this potential, analyse of present conditions of the sector and sectoral planning are needed. For this particular purpose, SWOT analyse is used for cattle breeding sector of Biga. According to the most important results of the analyse; if modern production methods should be used instead of traditional ones, technological improvements in production processes will be achieved, cost reduced government supports are applied and increasing the efficiency of the institutions such as TKDK, Biga can use its great potential for cattle breeding sector.

Özet

Gıda güvenliği ve gıda arzı gibi nedenlerden dolayı hayvancılık sektörü stratejik öneme sahip sektörlerden biridir. Biga ilçesi büyükbaş hayvan işletmeciliği bakımından önemli bir potansiyele sahiptir. Söz konusu potansiyelin iyi değerlendirilebilmesi için sektörün mevcut durumunun ortaya konması ve sektörel planlamaya ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu amaçlar doğrultusunda çalışmada Biga ilçesindeki hayvancılık sektörüne ilişkin SWOT analizi yapılmıştır. Analizin en önemli sonuçlarına göre geleneksel yöntemler yerine modern üretim yöntemlerinin kullanılması, teknoloji kullanımının yaygınlaştırılması, maliyeti düşürücü devlet desteklerinin uygulanması ve TKDK gibi kurumların etkinliğinin artırılması ile Biga büyükbaş hayvancılık sektörü sahip olduğu potansiyeli en iyi şekilde kullanabilecek duruma gelecektir.
