Abstract

Recent developments in cement manufacturing processes necessitated using refractory materials having vvidely varying properties. The important criteria for the selection of a refractory material for a certain locality can be summarized as follovvs: Process conditions and related priorities; Local temperature; Local conditions of the physical process; Application method and its necessity; Physical and chemical properties of the products or byproducts the refractory is in contact with... The anide discusses the various wearing mechanisms for the refractory materials including the effects of composition and the porosity. Monolythic and brick refractories are compared. Finally, the suitable refractory materials to be used for different locations inside the elements such as preheaters and rotarykiln are tabulated.
