Adaptation to University of First Class Students of Nursing College

Abstract

Research was planned as a descriptive study to determine adaptation state to university of first class students of Nursing College. The sample of the study consisted of 115 first class students (in 2003-2004 academic year) of Nursing College who accepted to participate as volunteer. In this study, questionnaire form were used to determine socio-demographic characteristics of the students and "Üniversiteye Uyum Ölçeği (Adaptation Scale to University)" was used to determine adaptation state university of them. This scale was developed by Akbalık (1997). The data obtained in two steps; at the begining and the end of the 2003-2004 academic year. The data were analyzed by using percentage andt-test. Results of this study showed that was no difference in the student's adaptation state between the begining and the end of the academic year. But when the mean of scores were examined carefully, it is considered that the students have more adaptation problem in academic, social and university area at the end of the academic year. This result have been thought that students were effected from the problems toward the end of the academic year. As a result, it can be said that students have adaptation problem to university and they need professional support to solve this problems.

Araştırma, hemşirelik yüksekokulu birinci sınıf öğrencilerinin üniversiteye uyum durumlarını belirlemek amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak planlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini, 2003-2004 öğretim yılında hemşirelik yüksekokulu birinci sınıfta öğrenimini sürdüren ve araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılan 115 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri bilgi formu, üniversiteye uyum durumları ise Akbalık tarafından geliştirilen (1997) "Üniversiteye Uyum Ölçeği" kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada veriler, 2003-2004 öğretim yılının başı ve sonu olmak üzere iki aşamada toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler yüzdeleme, t-testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar, öğretim yılı başı ve sonunda üniversiteye uyum durumları arasında anlamlı fark olmadığını göstermiştir. Ancak puan ortalamaları incelendiğinde, öğrencilerin öğretim yılı sonunda akademik, sosyal ve üniversiteye uyum konusunda daha çok sorun yaşadıkları görülmüştür.Bu sonuç öğrencilerin öğretim yılı ilerledikçe sorunlardan daha çok etkilendiklerini düşündürmüştür. Sonuç olarak, öğrencilerin üniversiteye uyumda sorunlar yaşadıkları, bu sorunları çözmede profesyonel düzeyde desteğe gereksinimleri olduğu söylenebilir.
