A Research Study Dealing With the Problems of Pre-School Education: An Example of Istanbul Province

Okul Öncesi Eğitimin Sorunlarının İncelenmesine Yönelik Bir Araştırma: İstanbul İli Örneği

Abstract

A questionnaire has been designed by the researchers of this study to analyze and evaluate the opinions of preschool teachers on "the problems of preschool education in Istanbul". The subjects of the research were 305 preschool teachers working in state or private educational institutions in the province of İstanbul and its administrative districts. These preschool institutions function under the provision of the Turkish Ministry of National Education or the Society for the Protection of Children, and in practice schools within the universities in Turkey. Application of the questionnaire was carried out from February to June in the spring term of 2003-2004 academic year. When the findings of the research are examined, it is seen that the preschool teachers having participated in the research regarded the following issues to be very important: firstly; Self-awareness and self-improvement (71.8%),secondly; Administration and administrators (67.2%), and thirdly; Programme (64.6%). The most favoured topic about which 52.6% of the teachers wanted to receive In-service Training was the "Techniques of Knowing The Child".

Özet

Araştırmada, okul öncesi eğitimi öğretmenlerinin, İstanbul ilindeki okul öncesi eğitimin sorunlarına ilişkin görüşlerini öğrenmek amacıyla, araştırmacılar tarafından bir anket formu geliştirilmiştir. İstanbul ili ve ilçelerindeki Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı 'na ve Sosyal Hizmetler ve Çocuk Esirgeme Kurumuna bağlı resmi ve özel okul öncesi eğitim kurumları ile üniversiteye bağlı uygulama okullarında görev yapmakta olan 305 okul öncesi eğitim öğretmeni, araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Uygulama, 2003-2004 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar dönemi içerisinde şubat-haziran ayları arasında yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın bulguları incelendiğinde araştırmaya katılan okul öncesi eğitimi öğretmenlerinin "Çok Önemli" gördükleri sorunlar sırasıyla, %7l,8 ile Kendini Gerçekleştirme ve Yenileme birinci sırada, %67,2 ile Yönetim ve Yöneticiler ikinci sırada, %64,6 ile Program üçüncü sırada yer almaktadır. Öğretmenlerin birinci sırada katılmak istedikleri hizmetiçi eğitimin konusu %52,6 ile Çocuğu Tanıma Teknikleri 'dir.
