Historical Consciousness and History Education

Abstract

Historical consciousness is one of the most important objectives attempted to be acquired through history education to students within contemporary education systems. Howewer, historical consciousness comes to existence not only via history course books and history teachers but also several factors in the course of socialization process. In developed Western countries, for a sound consciousness of history, in history teaching, the nature of history and production are introduced to students by means of focusing on the analyses of history presentations of these factors. In Turkey, it is urgent that history education be changed in this direction.

Özet

Tarih bilinci, günümüz eğitim sistemlerinde tarih eğitimi yoluyla öğrencilere kazandırılmak istenen en önemli amaçlardan birisidir. Ancak tarih bilinci sadece tarih ders kitapları ve tarih öğretmenleri yoluyla değil, belli bir sosyalleşme süreci içinde bir çok faktörün etkisiyle oluşur. Gelişmiş Batı ülkelerinde sağlıklı bir tarih bilinci için tarih öğretiminde bu faktörlerin tarih sunumlarının analizi üzerinde durularak, tarihin doğası ve üretimi öğrenciye tanıtılmaktadır. Türkiye’de tarih eğitiminin bu yönde bir değişime tabi tutulması büyük bir önem arzetmektedir.
