Attitudes of Second Degree Elemantary School Students Towards Social Studies in Accordance With Their Gender, Class Level and Achievement

Cinsiyet, Sınıf Düzeyi ve Başarı Durumlarına Göre İlköğretim İkinci Kademe Öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler Dersine Yönelik Tutumları

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the attitudes of second grade elementary school students towards Social Studies in terms of the variables gender, class level and achievement.. 682 students (343 of whom are female students and 339 of whom are male students) studying at the 6th (n=164), 7th (n=265) and 8th (n=253) grades of elementary schools in İzmir participated in the research. The data in the research were collected through Attitude Scale For Social Studies and Inquiry Form. Mean, standart deviation, t test, variance analysis and scheffe test were used to analyze the data in the research. As a result of the research it was determined that male students compared to female students,high-achiever students compared to low-achiever students and sixth grade students compared to seventh and eighth grade students have more positive attitude towards Social Studies.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler dersine yönelik tutumlarını cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi ve başarı değişkenlerine göre incelemektir. Araştırmaya İzmir'ilinde yer alan ilköğretim okullarının altıncı (n=l64), yedinci (n= 265) ve sekizinci (n= 253) sınıflarında öğrenim görmekte olan 682 öğrenci (343 kız ve 339 erkek) dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri Sosyal Bilgiler Tutum Ölçeği ve Bilgi Formu ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın verilerinin çözümlenmesinde aritmetik ortalama, standart sapına,t testi, varyans çözümlemesi ve scheffe testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda erkeklerin kızlara göre, başarı düzeyi yüksek öğrencilerin başarı düzeyi düşük öğrencilere göre ve altıncı sınıfların yedinci ve sekizinci sınıflara göre Sosyal Bilgiler dersine yönelik daha olumlu tutumlara sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir.
