The effects of octreotide to prevent the pulmonary complications in acute pancreatitis

Abstract

The Effects of Octreotide to Prevent the Pulmonary Complications in Acute Pancreatitis One of the most important and frequent complications of acute pancreatitis are pulmonary complications in the first seven days. In this study, a sorpatostatin analogue, octreotide, was used to see its effects on pancreatitis and pulmonary complications. Acute pancreatitis was induced by infusing, 5 % södiumcholate into the biliopancreatic duct of male Spraque-Dawley rats via transduodenal route. Three groups were consisting of sham (n—5), pancreatitis (n=10), and octreotid (n=10) groups. The rats were sacri-fied 24 hours after the procedure. When compared to pan¬creatitis group it was observed that amilase, glucose and pO2 values were decreased by 58 %, 50 % and 30 % re¬spectively in octreotid group. However calcium and pO2 values were increased 44 % and 77 % respectively. Finally, octreotid showed a partial positive effect to prevent the pul¬monary complications in acute pancreatitis.

Özet

Akut pankreatitte ilk yedi gündeki mortalite sebeplerinin en önemlisi ve en sık görüleni solunum sistemi komplikas-yonlandır. Bu. deneysel çalışmada pankreatit tedavisinde önerilen oktreotidin, deneysel akut pankreatitte solunum sistemi komplikasyonlan üzerindeki etkisini inceledik. Transduodenal biliopankreatik kanal kateterizasyonu ile % 5'lik sodyumkolat perfüzyonu yapılarak, Spraque-Dawley erkek sıçanlarda akut pankreatit oluşturuldu. Sham (n=5), pankreatit (n=10) oktreotid (n=10) grupları¬nın oluşturduğu denekler 24 saat sonra sakrifiye edilerek, ölçümler yapılmıştır. Oktreotid kullanımı ile serum amilaz düzeyinde amilazda % 58, serum glikoz düzeyinde % 50, pCO2 de % 30'ar düşme, serum kalsiyum düzeyinde % 44 ve pO2'de % 77 yükselme saptanmıştır. Sonuç olarak okt¬reotid ile hem pankreatit, hemde akciğer komplikasyon-lannda kısmi bir iyileşme gözlenmiştir.
