Abstract
2555 thyroidectomy cases performed in Ankara Numune Hospital between 1990 and 1995 were analysed retrospectively and two Riedel's thyroiditis cases were found out. Both cases could not be diagnosed prior to the operation and intraoperative frozen section biopsies were performed to exclude the risk of malignancy. The results of the frozen sections were benign. A radical surgical procedure was performed in one of the cases because of the suspicion of malignancy. In the other cases Riedel's thyroiditis was suspected and only isthmectomy was performed.
