Our experience of prosthetic mesh application at incisional hernia

Abstract

Background To present our experience with incisional hernia repair, to emphasize the technical details concern¬ing underlay polypropylen mesh application. Method Between January 1990-December 1991 28 cases of incisional hernia were operated in our institution. 9 of the patients were male and 19 female, with a mean age of 55.7 years. The mean interval between the index operation and incisional hernia occurrence was 14 months. All such hernias were repaired using polypropylen meshes applied in underlay position, according to a standard technique.Results Our recurrence (3.5 tient.occured in a diabetic patient.Conclusion We suggest that technique of underlay (intra¬peritoneal) polypropylen mesh application is a reliable, easily reproducible method, which shortens the operation time and which is safe contrary to the general opinion.

Bu çalışmada, insizyonel hernilerde uyguladığımız under¬lay (intraperitoneal) polipropilen meş tekniği ve deneyim¬lerimiz sunulmuştur. Ocak 1990-Aralık 1991 tarihleri arasında insizyonel herni nedeniyle 28 olgu bu yöntemle ameliyat edildi. Hastaların 19'u kadın, 9'u erkek olup, ortalama yaş 55.7 idi. Primer ameliyat ile insizyonel fıtık oluşumu arasındaki süre orta¬lama 14 aydı. Tüm olgularda meş underlay olarak uygu¬landı. Diyabetik olan bir olguda (% 3.5) nüks gelişti. Sonuç olarak; uyguladığımız underlay propilen meş uygu¬lama tekniği güvenli, kolay uygulanabilen, ameliyat süre¬sini kısaltan bir yöntemdir.
