Abstract

Primary Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma of the Small Intestine: A Case Report The signet ring cell carcinoma is a very rarely seen type of intestinal carcinomas and is also accepted as a mucine producing adenocarcinoma. The presentation of clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, histopathological features and survival of a case with signet ring cell carcinoma of small intestina was intended in the study. The patient had abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, inability to pass wind and inability to defecate since the last three days. After the physical examination and routine investigations the patient was operated in emergency basis with the diagnosis of acute mechanical intestinal obstruction. Mechanical obstruction in the jejunum due to tumoral mass and multiple metastatic nodular lesions in the abdomen were detected in the operation. Partial small bowel resection with end-to-end anastomosis and biopsies from nodular lesions were applied. Histopathologically, the lesion in jejunum was signet ring cell carcinoma and the metastatic lesions in abdomen were metastatisis of signet ring cell cercinoma. The patient was died due to multiple organ failure in the fifth postoperative day. The signet ring cell carcinoma of intestine in seen very rarely. It appears with complications because of its malign course when it is first seen. Although the treatment is surgical resection, the prognosis is very bad and the survival is short.
