Abstract

Hernia of Morgagni The Morgagni hernia is the rarest form of diaphragmatic hernias. In this report; a case who was treated surgically at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty is discussed. She was 53 years old and had Morgagni Hernia at right hand side. Al¬though preoperative diagnosis was precardial fat, diagno¬sis was defined as Morgogni Hernia during operation. Morgagni hernia has been more often recordable from women, along with rising age and usually located on the right hand side. Embryonic disorder of diaphragmatic dif¬ferentiation is believed to be the major etiologic factor, di¬agnosis can be confirmed, especially with small hernias which do not contain parts of intestine or liver. Surgical treatment is indicated in all cases of retrosternal dia¬phragmatic hernia because of the high risk of complica¬tions. Surgery through an abdominal approach is pre¬ferred and postoperative course is benign.
