Abstract

A Case of Giant Nonfunctional Retroperitoneal Para¬ganglioma Retroperitoneal paraganglioma still to evoke interest be¬cause clinically it is able to mimicking variety of syn¬dromes or remaining silent until autopsy. Its arise from specialized neural crest cell of sympathetic chain. Some of them are able to secrete vasopressor hormones which bio¬chemical diagnosis are done with measurement of 24-hour urinary vallinylmandelic acid or liquid chromatographic determination of total urinary metanephrines. Today com¬puted tomography (CT) and radioisotopic scanning with iodine-131 metaiodobenzylguanidine (131I-MIBG) are major localising modalities. Paragangliomas are rare and 40 percent malignant of them. The biochemical and histo-pathological diagnosis of malignant nonfunctional para¬gangliomas are notoriously difficult. There are not abso¬lute histological criterias of malignancy. Malignancy is dedected only if metastases are presented. Its curative treatment is total surgical excision. In this study, a case of giant nonfunctional retroperitoneal paraganglioma was presented.
