The place of Limberg flap in the treatment of pilonidal sinus

Abstract

The Place of Limberg Flap in the Treatment of Pilonidal Sinus Pilonidal sinus is a disease of cysts and sinuses ofsacro-cocygeal area with acute and chronic attacks. Its treat¬ment is surgical.However, recurrence rates and hospitali-zation time and work-off period are high with conventional methods. For this reason, it is very important to select surgical method. During last years, plasty meth¬ods has gained popularity. In this study, pilonidal sinus cases who came to Gaziantep University, Medicine Faculty Department of Surgery and who had no open and semi-open surgery indications were treated. 34 of them were applied Limberg Flap (Group 1), 38 of them were applied primary suture (Group 2). Be¬tween these cases, postoperative complication rates, hos-pitalization period, work-off time and their opinion about applied surgical procedure was recorded. At the end of the study, it was found that Limberg Flap was a more successful method in all those parameters.

Özet

Pilonidal sinüs, sakrokoksigeal bölgede akut ve kronik ataklarla seyreden kist ve sinüslerin oluşturduğu bir has¬talıktır. Tedavisi cerrahidir. Ancak konvansiyonel cerrahi yöntemlerle nüks oranı yüksek, hastanede yatış ve işgücü kaybı yüksektir. Bu nedenle cerrahi yöntem seçimi son derece önemlidir. Son yıllarda plasti yöntemleri güncellik kazanmaya başlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, Ocak 1991-Temmuz 1998 tarihleri araşıp da Gaziantep Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi'^ pilonidal sinüs şikayetiyle başvuran olgular arasından açık ve yar açık yöntem endikasyonu konulmayanlar alındı. Bunlardan randomize seçilen 34'üne Limberg Flep (Grup 1), 38'ine ise primer sütür (Grup 2) uygulandı. Ol¬guların operasyonlar sonrasındaki komplikasy onları, has¬tanede yatış süreleri, işgücü kayıpları ve yöntem değer¬lendirme sonuçları karşılaştırıldı. Çalışmanın sonunda; karşılaştırılan parametrelerin tü¬münde Limberg Flap yöntemiyle daha fazla başarı elde edildiği gözlendi.
