SOCIAL SUPPORT SCALE IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: TURKISH ADAPTATION, VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY

Abstract

This study was conducted to adapt the Social Support Scale in Physical Activities to Turkish and Turkish population. A total of 451 high school students voluntarily participated in the current study. The Social Support Scale in Physical Activities was developed by Farias Junior et al (2014) and this scale consists of two sub-dimensions as "parental support" and "peer support". The scale, which is prepared in 4-point rating type, consists of 10 items and both sub- scales consist of 5 items. The scale developed by Farias Junior et al (2014) was applied in the Portuguese language in Brazil. Permission to use the scale for adaptation of the scale in other languages and cultures was obtained and translation re-translation method was used to ensure that the scale expressions were the same as the original meaning in Turkish and Portuguese languages. SPSS and AMOS data analysis programs were used in the statistical analysis of the data obtained in the study. Factor structure of the scale was tested by using Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (GFI = .96, AGFI = .94, CFI = .97, TLI = .96, NFI = .94, and RMSEA = .05). When Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients of the scale were examined, it was determined that all values (scale and sub- dimensions) were over 70%. This results show that the Turkish form of the Social Support Scale in Physical Activities is a valid and reliable measurement tool.

Özet

Bu çalışma; Fiziksel Aktivitelerde Sosyal Destek Ölçeği’ni Türkçe’ye ve Türk popülasyonuna uyarlamak amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmaya toplam 451 lise öğrencisi gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Farias Junior vd. (2014) tarafından geliştirilen ölçek; “ebeveyn desteği” ve “akran desteği” olmak üzere iki alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. 10 madde 4’lü derecelendirme şeklinde hazırlanmış ölçeğin her iki alt boyutunu değerlendiren 5 madde de aynı ifadeleri içermektedir. Farias Junior vd. (2014) tarafından geliştirilen ölçek; Brezilya’da “Portekizce” oluşturulmuş ve uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin diğer dil ve kültürlerde uyarlanması için gerekli çalışma ve kullanma izni alınmış ölçek ifadelerinin çevirisinde Türkçe'deki öğelerin, Portekizce orijinal anlamı ile aynı olmasını sağlamak için çeviri tekrar çeviri yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizlerinde, SPSS ve AMOS veri analiz programları kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin faktör yapısı, Açıklayıcı Faktör Analizi (AFA) ve Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi (DFA) kullanılarak (GFI= .96, AGFI= .94, CFI= .97, TLI= .96, NFI= .94 ve RMSEA= .05) test edilmiştir. Ölçeğin Cronbach alfa iç tutarlılık kat sayıları incelendiğinde ise tüm değerlerin %70’in üzerinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar ölçeğin Türkçe formunun geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermektedir.
