On Substance

Abstract
The problem of substance was first discussed by classical Greek philosophers, was revived in the age of Enlightenment and was even handled by some 20th centwy philosophers. It was variously defined and described. Some held it to be primarily found in the individual entity, some taught it as a plurality and some named it as the uncreated creator. In this paper these arguments and contemporary interpretations shall be scrutinized.

Eski Yunan filozoflarından Yeniçağa hatta 20. yüzyıl filozoflarına değin tartışılan töz (substans) problemi, filozoflar tarafından değişik betimlerle dile getirilerek değerlendirilmiştir. Kimi filozoflar tözle tekleri, kimileri çok u dile getirmişler, kimileriyse tözle, yaratıcı ama yaratamayanı anlamışlardır. Bu yazıda, felsefe tarihindeki savlar ve çağdaş yorumlar incelenecektir.
