Womens Images in Monuments of Republican Period

Abstract

The monuments which are a new group of works of art have been started to be erected in the cities since the early republic years. In this study, women figures included in the relieves on the bases of these monuments were examined. Turkish women played an important role in the front and behind the front during the Turkish War of Independence for independence of the country. Turkish women who were always apprecieted by Atatürk, succeeded in getting social and political rights after the establishment of republic. Turkish women will take over new missions in the struggle for reaching modern civilization level and in the transfomtion of society. Self sacrificing efforts of Turkish women for independence of the country, their thanks giving to Atatürk, their social statue achieved in Turkish Republic have been offered to the public visually by means of monuments erected after the establishment of Turkish republic.

Özet

Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarından itibaren yeni bir eser grubu olan anıt heykeller kent mekanlarına dikilmeye başlamıştır. Bu araştırma da anıt heykellerin kaidelerinde yer alan kabartmalarda ve figür grupları arasındaki kadın figürleri ele alınmıştır. Türk kadını, Ulusal Kurtuluş Savaşında cephede ve cephe gerisinde ülkenin kurtuluşunda önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Atatürk tarafından daima takdir edilen Türk kadını, Cumhuriyet döneminde, sosyal ve siyasal haklara kavuşmuştur. Türk kadını artık, çağdaş uygarlık seviyesine ulaşmada, toplumun dönüşümünde yeni görevler üstlenecektir. Türk kadının ülkenin kurtuluşunda gösterdiği özverili çaba, Atatürk’e şükran sunuşu, Cumhuriyet Türkiye’sinde kazandığı toplumsal statü, Cumhuriyet dönemi anıt heykelleri aracılığıyla görsel olarak halka sunulmuştur.
