Abstract
Written Uzbek literature is divided into two main categories as classic and new. Classic literature composes of the literature of Chagatay and Khanates period whereas the new literature consists of the literary works during the innovation period and Soviet Union period after the transition period that started at the end of the 19th century and continued until 1910 and the literary works of the independence period that began in 1991 and continues until today. This classification is the same with the one adopted by Uzbek philologists.
