Abstract
Every process dealing mainly with economic, social and politics brings about its own conditions alongside. Societies under the effects of the processes they live form an ideal way of life that are becoming distinct according to their structural characteristics. This ideal way of life formed by the composition of the priorities, admissions and values have changed from past to this date. The economy which was only a component of the social life until the begining of the industrializiation has increased its determining efficiency on human relationships more as from that date. The capitalist system formed with industrialization has primarily focused on working and production to keep its existence. The system has carried out the directing and the controlling methods on the basis of working and production. M. Foucault has explained this situation with the example of “panoptikon” in which the “observing”, “closing” and “supervising” processes occurred. However, it’s not the production that is wanted to be introduced into life and that is basic in the century we live in. It’s the consumption. The incredible development of the scientific knowledge and technology has both produced too much, which can’t be compared with the past and has decreased the necessity for human power. From this point of view, it’s important that the produced goods and products be consumed. What the system needs and insists is that the consumption be increased as much as possible. For that reason, directing and controlling the people have principally been occuring on the basis of spending and consumption. The study whose subject is the slipping on the controlling aims the evaluation of the M. Foucault’s “panoptikon” example on today’s society of consumption.
