Abstract

AS, Efdal, The Olympics in which the Republic of Turkey Participated within the period of WWI and WWII in the Context of Relations Between the Ruling Power and Sports Organizations (1924 Paris, 1928 Amsterdam, 1936 Berlin), CTAD, Volume 12, Issue 24 (Fall 2016), pp. 156-204. The history of Olympic Games, which are considered the most important international organization in sports and held every four years, dates back to 776 BC. The starting date of the first Olympic Games in the modern sense is 1896. There were participations only from non-Muslim Ottoman sports fan community and solely with personal efforts on behalf of the Ottoman Empire in the Olympic organizations realized in the period from the first modern Olympics held in Athens in 1896 until the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. In the Republic period, the Turkish Training Society Alliance, a newly established institution, and the National Olympic Committee, which was established in the Second Constitutional Monarchy Era and continued its activities also after the foundation of the republic, have pioneered the sports development activities in the country and the participation in international sports events, in particular in the Olympics. This study reviews the participation processes of the Turkish athletes in the 1924 Paris, 1928 Amsterdam and 1936 Berlin Olympics participated in the period between the two world wars. In the study in question, the relations of the managers in that period with the sports policies and sports organizations are also examined, and the reflection of the political party - government cooperation, which was initiated towards the mid-1930s, to the sports is also presented. While studying, it has been availed of the official publications of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and periodicals of that period in addition to the archive materials, which is one of the important deficiencies in the publications in respect of the history of sports in Turkey.

AS, Efdal, İktidar-Spor Kurumları İlişkileri Bağlamında İki Dünya Savaşı Arasında Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin Katıldığı Olimpiyatlar (1924 Paris, 1928 Amsterdam, 1936 Berlin), CTAD, Yıl 12, Sayı 24 (Güz 2016), s. 156-204. Sporda en önemli uluslararası organizasyon sayılan ve dört yılda bir gerçekleştirilen olimpiyatların tarihi M.Ö. 776'ya kadar gitmektedir. Modern anlamda ilk olimpiyatların başlangıç tarihi ise 1896'dır. Atina'da 1896'da ilk kez düzenlenen modern olimpiyatlardan, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluşuna kadar geçen süreçte gerçekleştirilen olimpiyat organizasyonlarına, Osmanlı Devleti adına sadece sporsever Osmanlı gayrimüslim ahalisinden ve ancak kişisel gayretlerle katılımlar olmuştur. Cumhuriyet Dönemi'nde ise yeni kurulmuş bir müessese olan Türkiye İdman Cemiyetleri İttifakı ve II. Meşrutiyet Dönemi'nde kurulup cumhuriyet sonrası da faaliyetlerine devam eden Millî Olimpiyat Komitesi, ülkede sporun geliştirilmesi çalışmalarının ve başta olimpiyatlar olmak üzere uluslararası spor organizasyonlarına katılımın öncülüğünü yapmışlardır. Çalışmada, iki dünya savaşı arası dönemde iştirak edilen 1924 Paris, 1928 Amsterdam ve 1936 Berlin Olimpiyatları'na Türk sporcularının katılım süreçleri incelenmektedir. Söz konusu incelemede, dönemin yöneticilerinin spor politikaları ve spor kurumlarıyla olan ilişkileri de irdelenmekte, özellikle 1930'ların ortalarına doğru başlayan parti- devlet birlikteliğinin spora yansıması da sergilenmektedir. Çalışma yapılırken, Türkiye'de spor tarihiyle ilgili yayınlardaki önemli eksiklerden biri olan arşiv malzemesinin yanı sıra, dönemin süreli yayınları ile Uluslararası Olimpiyat Komitesi (IOC)'nin resmi yayınlarından da faydalanılmıştır.
