Occlusal vertical dimension and dental implants

Abstract

The determination of optimum occlusal verticaldimension (OVD) that is harmonious with theindividuals craniofacial system is important forprosthetic restorative procedures. The purpose ofthis article was to examine the importance of OVDfor implant supported prosthetic restorations withtwo clinical reports. A computer aided literaturereview was conducted to define the articles aboutOVD and implant supported restorations. Thereview revealed that one-stage OVD increase withmoderate to severe degrees (3-16 mm, mean: 7.3mm) did not result in any complaints ortemporomandibular disorders. Regaining the OVDdid not result in relapse or any changes. Moderatealterations in the occlusal vertical dimension ofpatients are generally well tolerated whennecessary for therapeutic purposes.

Bireylerin kraniyofasiyal sistemleri ile uyumluoptimum okluzyon dikey boyutunun (ODB)belirlenmesi, protetik restorasyon yapımındaoldukça önemlidir. Bu makalenin amacı, oklüzyondikey boyutunun implant üstü protetikrestorasyonlar açısından önemini iki olgu ileirdelemektir. İmplant üstü protezler ile oklüzyondikey boyutunun ilişkisi hakkında bilgisayardestekli tarama yapılmıştır. Yapılan literatürdeğerlendirilmesinde, total diş eksikliğinde orta veyüksek düzeyde (3-16 mm, ortalama:7,3 mm)yapılan tek aşamalı dikey boyut arttırımınınherhangi bir yakınmaya ya da temporomandibulareklem düzensizliğine yol açmadığı gözlenmiştir.Yeniden kazandırılan ODB da ise değişim ya dageriye dönüş gözlenmemiştir. İmplant destekliprotetik restorasyonlarda, terapötik amaçlarnedeniyle gerekli ise ODBnun orta derecedearttırılması, hastalar tarafından iyi tolereedilmektedir.
