Abstract
60 febrile episodes were evaluated in this open randomized study to demonstrate the clinical effectiveness of usage of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) in addition to empiric antimicrobial treatment in febrile neutropenic patients with haematological malignant disease. In 30 episodes G-CSF was used in a dose of 5 mcg/kg body weight as a mean of 10 days subcutaneously. No significant difference was demonstrated between two groups one having G-CSF in combination with empiric antibiotic treatment and the other with empiric antibiotic alone when compared according to the mortality rates due to infection and w rate of response to fever. As a result it was concluded that a more detailed study should be performed to identify the patic.it group in whom G-CSF is being used rationally with this indication.
