The Issue ‘Commonality In Being (Al-Mavjud Lafz Muşterek)’ In Farabi’s Metaphysics

FARABİ METAFİZİĞİNDE ‘VARLIKTA MÜŞTEREKLİK (EL-MEVCUD LAFZUN MÜŞTEREK)’ MESELESİ

Abstract

Our paper is an analysis on being. Our analysis covers Farabi’s ‘essence (el-mevcud) and ‘existence (el-vücud) terms and homonym term (lafzun müşterek)’. The problem of homonym term in being is a problem of being that received the attribute ‘müşterek’. Therefore, ‘müşterek’-attribute of being in Farabi’s thought is determined in the first part of our paper. The ‘müşterek’-attribute means ‘a lot’ of meanings in the language and gives these meanings to the concept it is added. So there are two types of partnership or commonality. One of them is homonymous and the second of them is synonymous. In Farabi’s thought, they are musterekship (mutavâtı’ship, musekkekship, musevakaship) and muteradifship issues. In the second part of our paper, the nature of the commonality meanings is analyzed. Its nature is oneness, commonness or plurality, continuity, equality meanings. In the analysis of the nature, thing, categories (jauhar and araz) and being/self (zât) concepts are given as an example. Book of Letters by Farabi is used for ‘thing, substance-accident and self-being’ concepts. Moreover, for ‘one’ concept, Book of One and Oneness is used.

Yazımız bir varlık analizidir. Analizimiz, Farabi’nin ‘el-mevcud’ ve ‘vücud’ terimleriile ‘lafzun müşterek’ terimini kapsamaktadır. Varlıkta ortaklık meselesi, müştereklikle/ortaklıkla sıfatlanmış varlık (el-mevcud) meselesidir. O nedenle makalemizin birincikısmında, Farabi düşüncesindeki ‘varlığın müşterek sıfatı’ belirlenmektedir. Sıfat dilde ‘birçok’ anlamına gelmekte ve eklendiği kavrama bu anlamları kazandırmaktadır.Dilde iki türlü ortaklık söz konusudur. Birincisi lafızda ortaklık ikincisi anlamda ortaklık. Farabi düşüncesinde bunlar, müştereklik (mutavâtı’lık, muşekkeklik, musevakalık) ve müteradiflik meseleleridir. Yazımızın ikinci kısmında ortaklığın mahiyeti analizedilmektedir. Onun mahiyeti ya ortaklık, ya birlik, ya süreklilik, ya eşitliktir. Mahiyetanalizinde ‘Şey’, ‘Kategoriler (cevher-araz)’, ‘Zât’ ve ‘Bir’ kavramları örnek olarak alınmaktadır. ‘Şey’, ‘Cevher-Araz’ ve ‘Zât’ kavramları için Farabi’nin Kitabu’l-Hurûf’u, ‘Bir’kavramı için Kitabu’l-Vâhid ve’l-vahde’si kullanılmaktadır.
