Death and Beyond in Necip Fazıl

Abstract

Death is an unavoidable end that all living creatures will face with. But the only being that lives with the knowledge of death is human being. For this reason, since the beginning of mankind death is both an object of curiosity and a frightening event. Artists, men of letters, theologians, and philosophers dealt with the subject of death; each of them developed an approach according to their worldviews. When we look at the history of ideas, from the beginning of antiquity, two approaches stand out. The first is never remembering the death, and the other is remembering the death at any moment. The issue of death in Islamic thought is mostly examined in the context of life after death and the nature of this life. In addition to the examination of this issue in-depth by theologians and philosophers, men of letters deal with the issue in their poems and novels. Necip Fazıl Kısakürek was one of the thinkers who wrote about the death, life after death, spirit, and the resurrection in his poems. In this study, we try to locate Necip Fazıl’s place in the history of ideas, especially the ideas which are suggested in the Islamic history of ideas about the death and hereafter.

Özet

Ölüm, bütün canlıların karşılaşacağı kaçınılmaz sondur. Ancak canlılar içerisinde öleceğini bilerek yaşayan tek varlık insandır. Bu yüzden insanlığın başlangıcından beriölüm hem merak konusu hem de kendisinden korkulan bir olay olmuştur. Sanatçılar,edebiyatçılar, kelamcılar ve filozoflar eserlerinde ölüm konusunu ele almışlar, her biritaşıdığı dünya görüşüne göre tutum geliştirmişlerdir. Düşünce tarihine baktığımızdaİlk Çağ’dan itibaren ölüm karşında takınılan iki tutum göze çapmaktadır. Bunlardanilki ölümü hiç akla getirmemek iken, diğeri her an ölümü hatırlamak şeklindedir.İslam düşüncesinde ölüm konusu daha çok ölümden sonraki hayat ve bu hayatınmahiyeti bağlamında ele alınmaktadır. Bu konu kelamcılar ile filozoflar arasında derinlemesine ele alınmakla birlikte, edebiyatçılar da konuyu romanlarında, şiirlerindeişlemişlerdir. Necip Fazıl Kısakürek de şiirlerinde ölüm, ölüm sonrası hayat, ruh vediriliş konularını işleyen bir düşünürümüzdür. Bu çalışmada ölüm ve sonrasına dairdüşünce tarihinde, özellikle de İslam düşünce tarihinde ileri sürülen fikirlere yer vererek, Necip Fazıl’ın bu düşüncelerden hangisine yakın durduğunu tespit etmeyeçalıştık.
